At our Family Pyjama Party in the Capital last November, a bright and kind-hearted woman approached me wanting to learn more about our organization. We met for a coffee several weeks later and I learned that she was not only a physician, but had also been a patient recently at the local hospital.
She had been thinking about the fact that patients didn't always plan to stay overnight at the hospital. When they arrived, many patients often lacked extra clothing, toiletries and small comforts like PJs and slippers. They also didn't always have family or friends able to bring these items to them.
Determined to see patients’ comfort increased and their health restored, our big-hearted doc successfully lobbied the local hospital to set up a Patient Urgent Needs Fund to provide these items and other basic necessities (like food and transportation) to help patients get back on their feet and restore their health.
Under the leadership of Dr. Saidenberg, Kind Village and its members (The Ottawa Hospital, Free Form Fitness, TD Bank) joined forces with an amazing Community of Champions to fill the first Patient Urgent Needs Pantry at two hospital locations. Our three-week Impact Event resulted in the collection of new and gently used clothing items, new toiletries, and other items that patients need.
We are so proud of our community donors, volunteers and the Kind Business and Professional partners who came together to meet the needs of a very deserving group of individuals.
Well done everyone and thank you for including us in your vision!
