“Every child needs access to healthy foods. Unfortunately, healthy foods are not always a realistic option, especially for families on tight budgets.”
That’s where Mealshare comes in.
Mealshare is a restaurant based program that operates under a simple Buy one, Give one model that empowers guests to turn their Dining out into Helping out!
Here’s how it works: Mealshare partners with restaurants, and places their logo next to a few menu items. When a customer orders a 'Mealshare Item' they get their meal, just like normal, and they provide one meal to a youth in need! Buy one, give one - it's that simple!
Mealshare provides all their meals through solution-based charities, like Operation Come Home and the Boys and Girls club here in Ottawa, where youth get the nutritious meals they need while accessing education, job training, counselling and other services that will ensure their healthy growth and development.
Why is this so important? In Ottawa alone, “[e]very year, more than 4,500 children and youth, ages six to 18, attend the Boys and Girls Club for access to a barrier-free, supportive place to experience new opportunities, overcome obstacles, build positive relationships, and develop healthy practices for life. That is why the Club serves more than 100,000 healthy snacks to their Members across their seven locations, which are strategically located in vulnerable areas throughout the city.”
If you want to support your neighbours in need, we invite you to join Mealshare’s mission to end youth hunger! The best part? All you have to do is eat!
Now, this is really important! Head to The Red Lion Public House (in the ByWard Market at 47 Clarence St) on Wednesday, May 10 for Mealshare’s biggest fundraiser of the year, Tonight for Tomorrow (TFT)! TFT is a multi-city event happening across Ottawa, Vancouver and Calgary, where participating restaurants will sign on to help grow the program!
Mark your calendars, grab some friends and head down to The Red Lion for an all-day karma feast, where every $1 spent on food = $2 donated to help Mealshare grow! How awesome is that?!
